An announcement had been made by the Kengan Clan Leader; Yujiro Kengan; a man renowned for his brutality and cruel deemenor amongst his own clan members, with the only lax side of him being connected with the Land of Earth's Kage in whom he purposely leaves the land of Demon to go fishing. But now an announcement was made as the Kengan's Annual Rite had approached, a Rite in which The strong Hunt down and kill the weaker members who either are Weak in the Eyes of Yujiro or possess Scars of Losses. A letter being sent out towards Yujiro's two oldest children, one in which took a stroll through the Rain Districts streets who'se hair was long and soaked from the rain, dressed in a Strange yet Normal attire with his Headband being classified as a wristband; his cold blue eyes glaring at the sky, as his soaked peach skin glissened. The Letter approaching via an Eagle, a bird of prey that symbolizes strength; But as this Bird Landed on a sign post, with the letter tied to its leg; Yatoru Kengan the eldest of Yujiro's looked upon it, he'd slowly grab a hold of it before unraveling it it revealed the news that the Annual Hunt where the Strong sought out and kill the weaker members, And in this letter it would reveal that Kengan Hanna, the Mother of Yatoru, Kyo and Okami Kengan was Killed by the hands of Yujiro Kengan; such news caused Yatoru's eyes to slowly widen, a turmoil of emotions rapidly circulating around his psyche before his expression returned to normal. This cold expression was almost normal for Yatoru at this point as he slowly began crumble up the paper in his fist,
"That Damned Old Man... He actually killed Mother... Luckily This Hunt won't effect me or Kyo. But If Little Runt loses in the Chunin Exam's... Then that will be quite disappointing."
Not only would this Reveal Yujiro's true nature, but Showed how quick Yatoru can dismiss the effects of loss so abruptly, as if the Kengan Clan's True Darkness Resided inside this individual... Though If his brothers should approach, this news would be quick to get to them.

Kyo's Theme

Within the pouring depths of Amegakure City was a young shinobi walking along the streets twirling around his pair of nunchaku by the chain on one finger as his other hand was preoccupied by yellow apple he had just purchased from one of the many food establishments. He had been lost in thought as he knew it was almost time for one of the most important events in shinobi history to begin. The day was coming soon and while Kyo knew he didn't need to practice for the even in particular since he, like his father Yujiro was simply the strongest amongst his peers and he had no doubt in his mind that this fact went true for others outside of his clan. The only other person he figured he'd have trouble with was his eldest brother and the very person who helped the Kengans overcome their weakness to genjutsu... The cursed cannibal, the trickster of the Wendigo... Mellow Tomogui. Two fights he didn't want to get into but not because he felt inferior to them, but rather his excitement for battle will completely overshadow his normal persona and things could spiral out of control for the simple fact, once he got excited all restraints came lose. Though as he continued to walk back towards his home within Amegakure, a group of individuals surrounded him; Two holding kunai at his sides, one holding a Kunai at his throat from behind, and the other 2 simply approached his frontal position. Not even phased by these individuals, the young shinobi continued twirling his nunchaku and stared down the two individuals in front of him while blatantly ignoring the other 3.
Kyo: You sure you want to do this? I Normally don't waste my time with weaklings unless they attack me. I have no problem with killing all of you here and now. But first I want to make sure this is really the route you want to go.

His words cut deep with the group of attackers as the one holding a knife to his neck pressed the tip of the blade against him, meanwhile one of shinobi thugs who had been in front of Kyo approached him making full eye contact with his hands balled up into a fist. Still, the younger ninja made no sudden moves since the group has yet to answer his question verbally or physically, but with what he was experiencing it seemed as if he may get to have a bit of fun afterall, especially after the collar of his Kimono was grabbed by the first who approached him unarmed.
Thug 1: We've been following you around, and it seems like you've got plenty of money for us. If you hand it over, we'll be on our way. Get it?

Money? That's what all the fuss was about? Kyo scoffed at their request which set off the thug and triggered him to punch Kyo straight in the jaw which caused the young shinobi's head to slightly turn to the side.
Thug 2: Hahaha he's too scared to move. - Thug 1: Are you dead you little twerp, give us the MONE---

A sudden wave of intent enveloped the group, while this wasn't killer intent; It made the one who had punched him take a step back on instinct without even thinking about it. A feeling had overcome him, one that symbolized a predator stalking it's prey. That single second caused Kyo to give off a very malicious smile towards the group added with a short low chuckle.

smile.gif

It was this very moment, with one action; Kyo's finger twirl smoothly transitioned into a fully on grapple of one of the ebony sticks as he allowed the other stick to continue with in trajectory which caused it to slam into the back of the skull of the thug who was holding the kunai to his throat. The pain of this nunchaku not only caused the thug to wince and become dizzy from the sheer impact, but it also caused him to drop the Kunai. With his extraordinary skills with this nunchaku, his twirling of it was so quick that the air itself seemed to bend and sing with each motion of the nunchaku. Kyo's arm had just missed the Kunai when crossed his body just before the handle of the kunai connected with the knee of the young shinobi which only allowed him to rise his leg and toss the blade into the air. Finally, with one smooth swing, Kyo swung upwards in a diagnal motion which caused the nunchaku to collide with the Kunai and sending it launching forwards at such speeds the a whistling sound shot through the air and flew straight through the neck of the thug who had punched him and embedded itself into the side of a building. Of course, with this motion, it also collided with the head of the fellow behind him once more, this time killing him as it left a deep dent in the top of this man's skull. With of these indivuals dead, the ones who were at his sides decided to rush in to stab him simultaneously.

As such, he tossed his apple into the air and used his free hand to redirect one of the thugs coming at him, while the one that held the nunchaku came slamming down onto the skull of the other, causing a loud crunching sound to echo through the area causing the kunai to fly from his hands as he fell to the ground. As the blade spun in the air, Kyo utilized his nunchaku once more to slap the kunai towards the last remaining man who stood watch the entire time, as it pierced the skull and got stuck within the brain. Now with one man left, Kyo delivered a devastating combo strike onto the last one who possessed the Kunai. He executed a series of five calculated strikes that target the opponent's head with his nunchaku, followed up with a fiery kick aimed at the his face; next he transitions into a graceful crouch, sweeping the nunchaku upwards in a serpentine motion and as the nunchaku's arc follows, it delivers a jaw breaking upper strike that targets the opponent's chin. Feeding off the weakening defenses, Kyo unleashes a powerful overhead nunchaku strike directly onto the opponent's head which causes this enemy to fall to the ground completely weakened. Finally, seizing the moment, Kyo propels himself into the air with a burst of chakra, transforming into a fleeting semblance of a blazing phoenix. As he ascends, he gather more of his energy for the final blow. With a triumphant cry, he hurtles downward with meteoric force, crashing into the opponent's body in a fiery collision the force of this technique being enough to break the spinal cord and even shatter ribs. This was his infamous "Rising Pheonix Strike".

After all was said and done, the apple that had been tossed into the air had finally came back down as Kyo caught in his hands just to continue eating it and walking off in the distance where he eventually met up with his brother yatoru as if nothing had just happened. His arrival being only moments before his brother took the letter off of the eagles leg, granting him the opportunity of knowing what was going on back in the Demon District but he had no words, he only made a slight expression of annoyance, even though she was weak and he understood tradition, she was still his mother and that angered him indeed, but instead of allowing his anger to be shown through expressions, he made it known with words.
Kyo: One of these days, Yatoru.. He's going to die by my hands....

Having had no particular reason for venturing off from his eldest brothers' side, Bōfū Kengan had remained within the vicinity of Yatoru the entire time. His normally wild pure-white hair was matted down by the rain, and his simple attire that loosely covered most of his body was soaked, clinging to his skin. The rain was also soaking into the already heavy bag on his back, making it weigh more than the original 100-ish pounds it normally was. He watched in silence as his oldest brother took the note off of the messenger bird, before reading it over his shoulder at the same time Kyo arrived to do the same thing.

Yatoru's expression and statement were to be expected, he was used to the callous behavior by now even though he knew it wouldn't kill him to at least act like he'd been affected by their mother's death. Kyo on the other hand was a bit more open with how he truly felt on the matter. However, Bōfū himself was the most affected - she was the one who helped him develop his fighting style, and the only one who remained supportive of him even when everyone else deemed him weak. After all, it was because she helped him develop his style that she was the only one who well and truly understood how much he had to struggle - just to maintain the delicate balance between the major aspects of martial arts that was required for his style. It was the very reason he didn't develop as quickly as his brothers when it came to skill, and was why he had to train at least twice as hard just to not completely fall behind.

His hands were clenched into fists and he was sorely tempted to find a place to let off some steam... Violently. With his fists. As it was, he was breathing deeply to remain some semblance of control over his emotions, but it was when he spoke that told gave away just how livid he was - and he was absolutely pissed. Like his namesake, he was a veritable storm of so many different emotions that he honestly didn't know what to feel. Fear, anger, grief, and everything else that one could feel given the situation, he was feeling it all simultaneously.
"Get in line, Kyo. He's mine... As a Kengan, she was weak and I understand our traditions, but beyond that and as a person with some damn morals, I don't take any pride or joy in it - you both know damn well how I feel about our traditions... That was our mother, for gods' sake! Tell me, how much longer are we going to keep killing our own every year simply because they don't meet an admittedly outrageous quota, huh!? How much longer are we going to keep killing children by throwing them off a goddamn mountain before they have a chance to become strong in their own right, conveniently forgetting that I myself was a late bloomer and would have joined countless others in death if not for my own sheer stubbornness and dumb luck!?"
Of course, what he didn't say was his response to Yatoru effectively singling him out even though the eldest sibling hadn't elaborated on that matter - Bōfū knew that even though his recorded and official losses were few, that still made him a target. He was the runt of the clan and the weakest out of their age group, the fact he had a good reason for it due to his style's nature didn't matter. And now that Hanna Kengan was dead, he was officially an outcast and the name on the top of many people's hitlist. As it was, he was lucky that he had long since opted to live far away from the rest of the Kengan clan and had not disclosed his place of residence to anyone. He had also brought up a good point: According to the clan's traditions, he should have been hunted down and killed a long time ago. In fact, according to those same traditions, it was a wonder his own brothers hadn't already done exactly that - if not them, then Yujiro himself certainly would have done it by now and there would have been nothing Bōfū could have done to defend himself.

As Yatoru Stood, his eyes diverting towards the skies; the rolling sound of thunder rumbling and vibrated through the air, rain pouring down much heavier than before as Yatoru merely stood their, as if fixated upon the heavens themselves; his hand letting go of the paper as in this strange moment for him, things began to seemingly unravel subconsciously in his mind. Escaping his lips just after Okami spoke his mind was Yatoru's laughter, which with the fall of this downpour continued for a solid few seconds, His hair shrouding his eyes and face as he continued to laugh. But alas this too came to an end as his head slowly fell, his posture seeming tense as Yatoru returned to an abrupt silence, It was upon Okami's words speaking of how much longer must the Kengan continue their Rites of Passage, something passed down since the Days of Ole; such words caused something In Yatoru to snap, and with no hint of hostility, nor aggression almost as if his body moved on its own, he swiftly spun his left fist would come crashing into Okami's Nose with such a blur motion; a tribulation of Yatoru's Speed which out of the Kengan clan was unrivaled; ultimately this would send Okami sliding across the wet grounds but still on his feet. Though at First this would seem to be a pointless and senseless form of Violence. But the truth remained much deeper as Yatoru shouted,
"Without these Traditions Our clan would have been wiped out long ago! Neither one of us would exist if not for the Rite of Passage, this Includes Mother! So Shut your Damn MOUTH!"
A fact that was inevitable and true, as the Kengan CLan without its Rite of Passage would have died out way back in the day, and to blame it on their mothers death let alone the children who were unable to rise up was a disgrace on their names, a fact that Yatoru would not allow being tarnished. This act from yatoru would reveal the streams of water running across his face, though the source could be water of his own, that will forever be unknown. But as Yatoru stood, his fist extended out as Yatoru breathed heavily, streams of hot air flowing from his lips as his Cold Icy eyes glared from behind the strands of hair that shielded his face; hiding the pained expression in his eyes.

The gathering of the Kengan triplets was indeed bound to be heated with the news that had just been recieved about their father killing their mother for their annual hunt. While there were things he agreed and disagreed with regarding their clan, at the end of the day even if Kyo wanted to defy his father at this very moment, he couldn't. It would simply end with him meeting the same fate as his mother, which was something he refused to allow. Though, when Okami spoke about the traditions along with somewhat demanding kyo wait, the only thing the middle sibling did was gaze at Okami with such intensity which told his younger brother to mind his tongue and shut up, or show him he had what it took to even approach their father. Out of the three, Kyo was the best at hiding his negative emotions as they were always masked with his "positive" personality and he was also the strongest as his sheer strength and durability was like a direct mirror of their fathers. At the same time, he heard the laugh of Yatoru, and judging by the position and body language he was giving off, this "laughter" was actual his attempt at hiding the fact he was crying underneat the hair that covered his face. He'd let out a sigh of grief as he heard his brother but he also knew how Yatoru though and before things could even escalate, Kyo unexpectedly let out a powerful wave of chakra holding the same force as if he was using his physical strength.

This wave of chakra hit both brothers within an instant, and even though Yatoru was the fastest he wouldn't be able to complete his punch towards Okami, it was as if his fist had been caught by Kyo himself and Okami himself wouldn't be able to move at all. The look on his face towards the two of them was more serious than he's ever been, which only showed just how pissed he was about the entire situation.

akaza-angry.gif

There's no need to waste your energy trying to get him to understand. We both know there's no point in that, especially now. We need to focus on becoming stronger and preparing ourselves for the upcoming exams. You know he's going to be watching since he more than likely knows about it. I don't plan on losing, anyone who gets in my way is going to die.

With that being said, Kyo began walking to their new training grounds, and just as he passed between both Yatoru and Okami; He released his chakra one last time with the same force as before, but this time it will have thrown both brothers slightly off balance and stunbling backwards but still on their feet.
Let's go.

Unfortunately, by the time Kyo attempted to step in, words had already been said and the damage had already been done. If there was one thing Yatoru would have done before Kyo's intervention, it would have been to make accusations that the youngest sibling would dare to commit the unforgivable act of disgracing the memories of the fallen - and Bōfū knew that. Out of all three of them, because of Yatoru being the most absorbed in the clan's teachings, his mindset on all clan-related matters did not allow him to see much else or think in any other way. It had become clear years ago that the two would never see eye-to-eye on anything related to the clan, in fact even their views of what it meant to be strong were vastly different. And now, in the depressing gloom of Rain District, it seemed things were finally coming to a head. Bōfū would flare the full brunt of his intent on Yatoru while using the back of his left hand to check for bleeding from Yatoru's punch, losing whatever control he had of his emotions for but a brief moment before remembering that Yatoru only dealt with facts - something that Bōfū knew how to do since he seemed to be the only one between the two of them who could see the big picture, and could thus see the most likely future of the Kengan clan with the way things were.
"... If you want to talk facts Yatoru, then let's talk facts. The facts are even though these traditions protect our clan from outside forces, we lose more and more clan members every year with just the annual hunt alone. As a result, we're losing clansmen faster than we can refill our numbers. My point is that with the way things are going, I'm actually afraid that the very traditions that save our clan from the outside will be what ends up killing us all off anyways from the inside. So don't you dare ever suggest, even in your thoughts, that I would commit an unforgivable act of disgracing the memories of the fallen by blaming this on those individuals. That kind of thinking is so backwards it's not even funny - In fact it makes you look really fucking stupid."
Bōfū would then pause to take a deep breath, allowing himself to regain control of himself before forcing himself to look both of his brothers in the eyes. Even though he was making no move to hide the fact he himself had been hit hard with the death of their mother and was clearly shedding tears over the loss, his eyes still burned bright with resolve and a strong will. He did not allow himself to be intimidated by his brothers - after all, if his own brothers could make him cower or lose composure in any similarly unsightly manner, then how could he possibly hope to ever face their old man?
"I swore an oath to mother years ago that I would prove these traditions to be the incorrect approach to the immediate and long-term problems - that if even a runt like me could become worth something if given the chance and the tools to do so, then so can the others who come after us. I have no intentions of ever giving up on making that dream reality - even if I end up having to quite literally die to make it happen. What would truly be a disgrace to her memory would be if I gave up on that simply to live another day. However, I'm in no hurry to die - as I am now, I stand no chance at all and I know that. To make such an attempt as I am now would be tantamount to suicide, which would be just as disgraceful if not even worse. I have to get stronger... Much stronger. And for that, I'm going to need some help. But first! Yatoru... You once said back in the academy that the only way you would start calling me by my name is if I managed to hit you, right? Well, you never said when, where, how, how hard, or any other specific conditions."
Bōfū would then focus his chakra and power into his right arm, granting him faster movement in that arm. Once his right fist was pointed at Yatoru's forehead, he would focus his chakra and power into his hand and fingers, making it look like he was going to flick him. This gave his hand more speed and power than he just had in his entire arm. This effect became even more prominent after he began focusing it all on his fingers. His middle, ring, and pinky fingers were stretched out, at which point Bōfū would then focus that same amount of his chakra and power on his index finger and thumb, allowing him to build up the maximum amount of allowed kinetic energy before actually flicking at Yatoru's forehead.

It should be noted that this wasn't just a full-power shockwave-empowered flick, it was empowered even further by his chakra... And he'd used quite a bit in that flick, with the accumulated kinetic energy and power making it the densest and fastest shockwave he was currently capable of without using their clan's kekkei-genkai. The neat part was that the flick was released at exactly the right moment, before Kyo passed between them. He would then use a shockwave-empowered jump in an attempt to get to their new training grounds the fastest - if nothing else, he was certainly determined to fulfill the promise he'd made to their mother, no matter what it took... He only hoped that Yatoru wasn't so absorbed in the clan's teachings that he would try to stop him outright.

1694206235068.png

As his Punch succeed, granting ten feet of distance, Bofu had no understanding of Yatoru's Mindset, as shown in many interactions between the two, Bofu always believes that Yatoru is fixate and wholeheartedly follows and believes in the Beliefs of the Kengan Clan. And Yet if he did, why would Yatoru shed tears for his mother; this only once more Proves that the youngest knows nothing about his elder brother. And as Bofu prattled on about his own personal ideals that he wholeheartedly believes as Facts were still far from that. And though Bofu''s Intent reached out, Yatoru's Willpower shrugged it off like it was nothing. But as Bofu finished his first Rant, Yatoru spoke out, as the Eldest Brother, who has seen much more of the Clan than Bofu, having had a hand in the Rites, he knew the actual reasons behind it, hence why Yujiro had made Yatoru a foundational Support for the Clan's Beliefs as at a young age Yatoru did not waver from his duties.
"Facts? All that you prattle on about are Ideal's, Since you were Young you have never Truly seen the reasoning and purpose of the Clan's Rites and Traditions; No you were so busy being craddled by Mother and babied. That it wasn't until Father said something that forced you to train. If you think you know anything at all. Than Shut yourself up. Because you know nothing of the deep purpose of the clan and its Rites. If you think its outdated and would lead to self destruction? Are you that simple minded and closed off to the actuality of this world?! How stupid can you really be Runt?! If we let weak members exist, Even to this very day, that weakness can be exploited and lead to the utter destruction of the clan! How stupid must you really be to believe that it itself is killing the clan. Our clan has been standing for decades due to this fact. Your falsified Ideals are only going to get yourself and everyone in the clan Killed! That is why you were never chosen to become an heir, not because of your Failures or Weaknesses. Its because you can not see the broader picture of the Kengan Clan! So for you to call these Traditions an Act of Pointless Murder IS A DISGRACE on those who were sacrificed. At Birth we at a genetic Level Understand our purpose, we are fighters, those who can not do such anymore, such as the Weak, or Elderly are willingly giving up their lives! SO DO NOT EVER SAY That its killing our Clan. To act as if you even understand what Mother Believed in... THATS A DISGRACE ON HER NAME! She was a Kengan first! She died because of the Illness she HELD AWAY FROM YOU BECAUSE YOU WERE TOO EMOTIONAL! She was no longer a fighter nor strong enough to continue on her own! Father did her a mercy, Both me and Kyo grieve because she is our Mother but understand why! It seems you are the only simpleton thats too stupid and closed minded to actually see the truth! I Agree you need to get stronger, but do not ever act like you know anything about the clan or about mother. Or else I'll rip your tongue out"
Having spoken the long hidden truth that had been concealed away from Bofu for his entirely life; it would most likely be a bombshell that either he can come to accept or reject entirely, that Yatoru can not tell the outcome, but it was clear he was entirely annoyed with the false Ideal's of Bofu at this very moment, with all thats going on, and even if his brother pissed him off, he didn't want another family executed, he wanted to either see Bofu or Kyo challenge their father as he himself would ascend into being the clans next leader. But as Bofu prepared and unleashed a shockwave from a flick casted by his Right arm, but like usual, This would never meet its mark, Yatoru's speed easily outmatches Bofu's strength and shockwave, even with Chakra empowerment as this still didn't change the difference in speed and reaction time; meaning Yatoru with such fluidity, and swiftness stepped to the side, allowing the shockwave to fly past, missing entirely as while it had great Potential Energy from being built up at a stationary state, the Kinetic Energy was lacking as though it was the fastest Bofu could do without the Clans KKG, it was still lacking strength that Kyo possessed or the speed that Yatoru possessed. Meaning to Yatoru this shockwave was actually slow. Meaning it would have never met its mark, and though Yatoru stood, watching Bofu leap out towards the Training Field by utilizing a Jump riding his previous shockwave since the Kengan can not fire Shockwaves all willy nilly without it being through Martial Arts. Watching Bofu leave, he'd let out a sigh, the rain pouring down violently as Yatoru slowly slid his hands into his Pockets; His eyes shielded by his hair.

Slowly making his way towards the Training Field, Not seeing a point of using his speed, no he wanted to take time to process everything in terms of grief as quietly as he could.

The plan to stop his brothers from fighting had not went according to plan due to him not having the proper amount of intent to subdue their fighting spirits. As such, it ended with Bōfū being punched and knocked back by the eldest brother which only caused the middle child to shake his head and sigh in disappointment of how quickly things between them got out of hand. While it was something that didn't surprise him, Kyo hoped that they could at least be around each other for more than 5 minutes. The younger siblings attempt to attack Yatoru had failed due to it slow approach, for someone who's fighting style excels with shockwaves; The display was quite pathetic and to allow Bōfū to participate in the upcoming exams or even let him think he had a chance at making it past the first test would be like allowing an ant to go to war with an ant-eater. While Yatoru was indeed brutal in battle, he held back the youngest in fight for the simple fact he was the weakest and couldn't survive in the battle. Kyo on the other hand refused to hold back because holding will never allow him to grow properly. Once he saw that Bōfū left in a hurry due to the situation, Kyo finally spoke out.
Kyo: You know he's too emotional Yatoru, that wasn't the right way to tell him that.... Regardless, trying to speak with him isn't going to change anything, he'll remain weak. He doesn't even know how to properly utilize a fighting style he's been trying to master since we were kids. So when we get to the training grounds, stay back. I'll make him stronger the way our father intended us to be. The fact I can use shockwaves better when his style excels in them in a disgrace, so I won't go easy on him like you, im going to show him just how much he needs to embrace the reality of our clan before he gets himself killed.

Kyo spoke those words as he continued his path towards the training grounds, eventually reaching it during their conversation. As they approached however, Kyo slowly approached Bōfū as usual and gave off no sign of aggression whatsoever.

Kyo's Training Theme

Kyo: Bōfū, I hope you actually understood the meaning behind what Yatoru was saying and get ready to prove yourself, especially to Yujiro. Because if you didn't then you have no right calling yourself a Kengan, and I suggest you give up on participating in the Chunin Exams. However, if you're ready then i'll personally ensure that you're ready. And depending on how you do, I'll talk Yatoru into helping me prepare you for the fight with our. father. Because if we lose, it's going to be up to you. So tell me here and now, are you ready to step up and act like a true Kengan, or should I give up on you now.

His words towards his younger brother were stern and serious, his intentions were clear as he had no reason whatsoever be mischievous. However, the answe given to Kyo by his younger brother will determine how he moves forwards. Should Bōfū not understand what either of them were getting at, then Kyo will simply turn his back towards the youngest brother and refer to him as "The Failed Demon Warrior", essentially kicking him from their clan and disowning him as a brother. Though, should Bōfū understand and want to prove himself; Kyo will give a small smirk towards him and nod his head in acceptance. Finally, with no warning, Kyo will deliver a warning punch point blank towards the youngest brother but purposely missing by an Inch simply to allow a shockwave to shoot from his fist and send Bōfū rocketting backwards. This wasn't mean to do damage was his way of telling his younger brother he wasn't going to give up on him unless he gave up on himself.
Good.. Then your training begins now..

Despite moving as fast as he could in his distraught mental state, he had still heard every word Yatoru and Kyo spoke. As such, when Kyo gave his ultimatum, he didn't give an immediate answer. How could he? Bōfū had just had his entire world turned upside-down, and was now being expected to have an answer while under duress. Right now, it was all Bōfū could do to get his breathing under control, his bag having since fallen off his shoulders and onto the ground with a hard and audible THUD. It was all true... Despite being of Kengan blood, his admittedly sheltered upbringing at the hands of their mother had left him prone to the very emotions he was now struggling to get under control. Every negative emotion one could feel, he was feeling all of them at once. Right now, the most prominent was betrayal due to having had all of this kept secret from him his entire life.

The Chuunin Exams, despite their father's impending presence for them, was hardly the time to have had these revelations thrust upon him, much less in the manner it had been done. He didn't know anything anymore, and questioned if he'd ever known anything at all. It also raised the all-consuming questions of what else had been kept from him, and who he could trust since in his mind he apparently couldn't even trust his own family. The only thing he could confidently say he knew anymore was that their mother had a good thing going, having been training the younger children of the clan to give them a better chance of survival during the rite of passage and the ones who passed to give them better odds during the annual hunts. In his mind, that was the biggest middle-finger one can give to the clan's traditions without actually doing anything to violate them. She hated the traditions just as much as anyone else, but still understood why they were necessary and sought to at least give the generations that followed a better chance. Her hope had been to reduce the deaths of children before they ever truly got to prove themselves in the short-term, while the long-term goal had been to allow natural selection and evolution to allow future generations to evolve to the point no child of the Kengan clan ever died as a result of either the rite or the hunts in the future.

Remembering this, Bōfū realized that she had to have known that such an ambitious end result would have never been achieved in her lifetime even without her illness being of the incurable variety. He realized that this entire time, Hanna had ultimately intended to groom him into continuing her work. She had to have known she didn't have much longer to live, and needed a successor... The entire time, he had been the only one she could trust with that responsibility, and here he was doing everything but that. He felt like scum for betraying her memory so easily, and for that alone he knew what his answer was. For the first time in his life, he truly felt like he had proper direction and was in control of his own life to some extent. The thought was empowering, calming, and bolstered his self-confidence and determination to heights previously unseen before.

"I won't say I quite understand or accept just yet why things are the way they are... I no longer know who to trust, what to feel, or if I ever truly knew anything at all. BUT! The one thing I know for a fact I can say with confidence that I know, is that Mother had a good thing going. At the very least, I realize that there is no changing or throwing away our traditions. However, Mother once told me that the children are meant to be the inheritors of the future, but what future is there to be had if there are no children left to pass it on to as a result of the very traditions that protect us? None. To keep this from ever coming to pass or even remotely being at risk of becoming a problem, she began training the younger children of the clan to give them better odds of survival during the rite, and the older children that survived the rite to give them better odds during the hunts. She confided in me once - and only once - that her goal was to give evolution and natural selection a better chance of taking hold to the point we never lose any children to the rite or the hunts ever again. I realize now that she was ultimately grooming me to continue her work since such a thing will take many more generations to become reality, so that's exactly what I plan to do from this moment forward. THAT is my answer."

Once again having control of himself, Bōfū was able to activate his [Tranquil Dowsing] technique with an immediate application of chakra to the tattoo on his back that formed his compass needle. While doing so, and immediately after he finished speaking, he allowed himself to fully pull his fists back while entering a half-crouch position, his left foot in front of his right. Immediately afterwards, he would lean in while simultaneously throwing his fists at the center of Kyo's torso with a double-barrel shotgun-style punch. Due to being faster than Kyo, Bōfū would most likely finish his attack first. Even though Kyo was slower, he made up for it with his greater strength and durability. While landing a hit was no great feat, it would be if one could make him actually hurt from that hit - which was what Bōfū was aiming for. Even though his style excelled with shockwaves the most out of the three of them, he needed to prove that he was no slouch with direct hits either because of the power normally found in those shockwaves. The one he'd sent from a flick was a weak one, and he truthfully knew that, and he figured that his brothers - especially Kyo - now saw it as him not knowing how to use his own style properly... It was time to correct that. Truth was, he'd been thoroughly distressed and had not been thinking or acting calmly, and it had thrown him off in a way he hadn't thought possible. It had revealed that the effectiveness of his style was also largely dependent on his state of mind.
