Kokezaru looked over the group as they spoke, conversing about the challenge that Jin had thrown towards Gyoken, in which he wanted to spar the Uchiha. This was clearly a stupid idea to Kokezaru, and he was glad that the two of them wouldn't be doing something as idiotic and time-wasting as a sparring match while off on an important mission. While they spoke, he heard Yugo speak up, mentioning what he had done with the meat he had harvested from his recent catch. As he spoke, the aroma of the freshly roasted meat wafted up to where the monkey boy had been hanging.

"That smells great. I can't wait to dig in."

Kokezaru, in response to the smell, dropped from the branch and twisted his body mid-fall to land on his feet effortlessly, as if it was a common occurrence for him. He would quickly make his way towards the campfire, planning to dig into the meat while it was still available. Kokezaru loved his fruit, but it didn't make for a balanced diet on its own, and like most people, he loved the taste of cooked meat. He would sit down and begin to dig into some of the meat as Jin spoke up again. He would listen to the boy as he spoke of writing down what they were known for being skilled in, as discussing it out loud wasn't the best option—we had no idea if someone was following us.

"Ok, give me the piece of paper and I'll write down what I can do."

Kokezaru took the piece of paper from Jin and quickly scribbled down, in surprisingly neat handwriting, what he was good at. What the paper read was: Taijutsu, Bukijutsu, Transformation Technique, and Fire Release, followed by a little comment that Ryuzaru was the same. After filling out the sheet, he handed it to Jin and went back to eating, switching between fruit and meat to give himself a delicious and somewhat balanced diet—offering fruit, specifically bananas and peaches, to anyone interested.

Yugo finished his meat letting the rich filling nutrition fill his stomach as he feels his vigor alight his metabolism stirring as he sighs softly contented. The tension seems to fade a relief to be sure for Yugo knowing his sensei wished him to refrain from letting any of his nature loose and the less unnecessary combat the easier it will be to uphold that wish. Satchel filled with the dried and wrapped meat rations as Yugo stands ready to depart as he hears the recommendation to share skill sets covertly a thought that made Yugo wonder at the practicality of watching a gaggle of genin as opposed to launching a sudden assault then retreating in hit and run tactics his own instincts briefly arguing about which he would choose in the offensive position.

The train of thought is cut off by his comrades taking their share of the offered meal a small ping of pride evident from Yugo's smirk seeing them enjoy the meal and hearing the comments. “Remind me to never arm-wrestle you, by the way. That strength of yours—must be a nightmare to spar against.” Once again Yugo takes note of the impressive nature of Uchiha perceptiveness the precision of the boar kill and preperation could easily slip most peoples notice and the realization of Yugo's lean musculature easily hidden by a slender frame yet observation makes it clear the muscles below the skin are wound tight like steel wire. Yugo himself only nods before responding "And remind me not to gamble against you Gyoken". Yugo considers his words but cuts himself off before he mentions the specific attributes of Gyoken's that is note worthy though any not ignorant of a rather famous clan could likely assume.

The young Kumo genin sets down 2 canteens onto a stump near the camp fire both filled with boar fat which can cause intensive and long lasting fires letting any of his fellow party members choose if they wish to take the improvised resource for their own use. Yugo regards Jin with a solemn nod taking a piece of paper and making a few swift markings to write down his key attributes of 'Medical Ninjutsu/Enhancement, Taijutsu, Endurance' swiftly folding the paper and handing it back for them to elaborate as they see fit from the provided details. "Seems we are set then, I look forward to working with all of you considering your talents" He stands ready watching the horizon eager to keep moving.

LEGENDARY
Mission: Where the Moon Weeps
6f3c20c21cd465c1572bd1c8be2d572d.png

The scent of firewood and sizzling fat curled upward into the moon-soaked air, a beckoning wisp of life amid a village long silent. Just beyond the reach of the firelight, where violet-tinged shadows melted into the pale haze of mist, something stirred—yet nothing moved. No branch snapped, no blade of grass bent. Only the fog seemed to thicken, as though breathing with unseen lungs. They arrived—unseen, unheard, and entirely unfelt. Four figures in muted silken garb knelt low in the shallows of a moss-covered rooftop overlooking the glade. Their features were shrouded beneath masks of polished black shell, curved like crescent moons. The very air around them shimmered faintly—not with heat, but distortion. Like water on stone. Their presence erased by the masterful use of the Dustless Bewildering Cover technique, they bent light and chakra both until they were indistinguishable from the mist itself.

And so, they watched.

Below, the genin of the United Shinobi Alliance gathered around the fire. The camp crackled with conversation, the flickering flames reflected in calm eyes, in exhausted ones, in eyes that had seen too much too soon. They spoke in low voices and shared paper instead of secrets—clever. Words weren’t the only things being burned tonight.

One of the hidden observers tilted their head ever so slightly. A faint tremor passed through the mist beside them—a silent signal, received and returned. Another nodded in response, fingers twitching in coded motions. They are not hostile. They’re coordinating. Preparing for something larger. These are not untrained. The third watcher tapped two fingers against the hilt of a slender blade at their back. Not a threat, but a gesture—ritual. A memory of tradition. The Getsumei Clan had long lived apart, hidden within the folds of moonlight and illusion. But the fire below reminded them of warmth, of old alliances, and the risk of being seen. Still, no approach was made. No message sent.

Only the fourth observer moved—with agonizing slowness—adjusting a silver vial at their belt. They held a scroll bound in pale string, its seal unbroken. Eyes narrowed behind the mask. They’ve come for answers. We were told to wait... but waiting has brought only silence. Smoke rose steadily now, forming a pillar of soft grey against the crystalline glow of the moon. The fire below was nothing more than a signal flare to those who had been watching long before it was lit.

They would continue watching—for now. The Getsumei were still alive. Still hidden. Still deciding if the world beyond the mist should see them again.

Gyoken moved quietly through the forest lining the Moonlight District, the cool air brushing against his face as mist curled around his ankles. The fire from camp was far behind him now, its warmth replaced by the chill of early night. Pale purple moonlight filtered through the trees, casting a soft glow on the path ahead. His steps were measured, cautious but not tense. He wasn’t expecting trouble—just trying to get a feel for the land. The silence wasn’t ominous, just... different. No insects. No wind through the branches. Just the sound of his own breath and the faint rustle of leaves underfoot. Pausing near a moss-covered tree, Gyoken glanced up through the canopy. The light from the moon shimmered oddly, like it was being reflected off glass. He tilted his head slightly, watching it for a moment before moving on, stepping around a cluster of rocks. He wasn’t looking for a fight. Just answers. Something about this place felt... distant. Like it was keeping its secrets close.

Kokezaru walked beside Gyoken as their group progressed along the path all the while Ryuzaru hoped from branch to branch above them. The forest that surrounded them was errily quiet and it felt like someone was watching them but there was no evidence of it. Gyoken's dojutsu prowess and the noses of Kokezaru and Ryu where useless at this moment not picking up anything of not. Due to this Kokezaru just chocked it up to nerves as this was his first proper mission.

"So Gyo is everything good? Your looking off into space."

Kokezaru questioned his comrade about his stairing off into the trees above as if he was curious about something. Kokezaru was simply checking to see if he had noticed something that he himself hadn't. As they continued walking he would reach around and remove a peach to snack on.

The air was still faint brief waves of chill amid the mist that hung low like a shallow sea of clouds dragged to the earth. Yugo was no sensory expert but his instincts were keen in part due to the inherent nature of his blood and its interaction with the natural world around him. There was something askew, of course most notable animals would avoid a collection of traveling humans but...this stretch of road was seemingly devoid of any presence, no smaller vermin or insects in the brush or air despite the still air it pointed to either some local natural condition Yugo was unaware of or more likely something was amiss. In the cases of potential ambush Yugo knew playing cat and mouse was not to his advantage his mind focusing more on a simple set of deep seeded instinctive commands 'Survive and Counter Attack with Crushing Brutality' his mind a checklist of vital points he would focus on protecting at the slightest sign of attack lacking trust in these unknown lands and its denizens.

Of course the young Jugo clan genin has to consider the possibility that he may be paranoid choosing to say nothing as he wanders a few meters behind the rest of the team. Yugo might not say it aloud but he would never ignore his instincts and this place provoked some sense of concern making him wonder if there could be something other than mere ambush, a thought cut off by worry considering the possibility of Genjutsu. It wouldnt be hard to make a mist covered road appear never ending keeping use aimlessly wandering until exhaustion takes root, in such a case Yugo decides a swift precaution isnt uncalled for. In such terms Yugo briefly draws closer to one of the trees near the roadway placing the bare skin of his left forearm against jagged bark and with a swift motion rips a thin gash into his arm knowing his medical abilities could let him recover quick if need be but if under a Genjutsu sudden pain was a useful tool to break its hold on the mind.

Mission: Where the Moon Weeps

From the treetops above, the mist stirred—not by wind, but by movement unseen. The Getsumei Watchers, cloaked in their perfect camouflage, remained still no longer. The fire had been a beacon. The silence—a test. And now, the moonlight itself answered back.

Without a sound, several translucent ripples shimmered through the trees like heatwaves, bending around bark, dissolving into shadows. Where once there was nothing, now figures emerged—half-formed at first, then gradually visible. Four shapes stepped onto the path ahead and behind, cutting off both ends of the trail, appearing as if conjured from the mist itself.

Their skin was marked faintly with jagged silver lines that pulsed gently beneath the skin—chakra scars, residual signs of prolonged contact with something unnatural. Each wore the ceremonial garb of the Getsumei, but dulled, stained with time. Their masks, moon-shaped and cracked, revealed sharp eyes dimmed of humanity.

They did not speak. They only watched.

The leader stepped forward, the Dustless Bewildering Cover fading completely from his form like melting glass. His chakra was faint, thin—as if only a fraction of it clung to this plane. He raised a hand—not in threat, but in warning. The mist behind him shimmered again, and for a split second, something else flickered into view. A figure, tall and distorted, like a reflection in broken water, loomed just behind him—and then it was gone. Like it had blinked out of existence. The Getsumei leader finally spoke, voice low and distorted by some otherworldly resonance.

“You should not be here. The Shrine breathes. The Mirror weakens. Turn back… or you too will fracture.”

Then, without warning, all four faded again into the mist—leaving no chakra trail, no scent, no weight on the land. Only the sharp, residual cold of their presence remained. Above, the pale purple hue that once danced gently across the canopy suddenly pulsed, like a heartbeat—brief and irregular. Something inside the Moonlight Shrine had stirred. And now, it knew they were here.

Jin Name Tag.jpg

Walking at a distance behind the other three, where his eyes seemed focus forth as Jin seemed lost in his thoughts, and though in a brief moment where his attention returned, he came to realize a dense mist flowing in, gradually revealing humanoid figures as Jin slowly stepped beside Gyoken and the others. Though remaining silent, his cyan eyes stared forward as what can be determined as the leader of this group of masked scarred individuals. Words which were spoken in riddles,
“You should not be here. The Shrine breathes. The Mirror weakens. Turn back… or you too will fracture.”

Hearing these words before these mysterious figures faded back into the mist that too reseeded back into the forestry. His left hand slowly resting on his hip, Jin stood his head tilting with an almost curiosity of the situation,
"Well that was something... Can't be sure if its a threat or a warning."
The tone escaping his lips being that of amusement yet curiosity.

Gyoken’s two tomoe sharingan narrowed as the mist shimmered, warping like glass under heat. No sound. No chakra. But his instincts surged. The figures didn’t step out so much as appear, sliding into existence like phantoms. The Getsumei. Or what was left of them. Their bodies marked with faint silver scars, their presence more hollow than living. And then… that flicker. Something behind them—distorted. It didn’t move like a person. It moved like a reflection trying to mimic one. He didn’t draw a weapon, didn’t even shift his stance. Just watched. Measured. Waited.

Their leader spoke in a voice that barely felt tethered to this world. Then they were gone. No trace. No scent. Only that same unnatural stillness, the way the air felt thinner now. Wrong. Jin stepped beside him, commenting casually, but Gyoken’s eyes stayed locked forward, scanning the canopy. The moon pulsed again. He spoke quietly, but without hesitation.
“That wasn’t a genjutsu.”
Crouching low, his fingers brushed the forest floor. Untouched. Weightless. As if the figures had never been there. Even the Sharingan would have struggled to catch them. He rose, glancing toward his teammates, then back to where the mist was retreating in slow spirals.
“Getsumei shinobi… or what’s left of them. But they’re not just hiding. They’re protecting something.”
Another glance toward the source of the moonlight—where the pulse had originated.
“Warning or threat, doesn’t matter. We’re already past the threshold. Whatever they meant by ‘fracture,’ I think the Shrine’s at the center of it.”
He scanned the terrain one last time, eyes flickering with subtle chakra as his senses expanded outward. Gyoken stepped forward into the path ahead, the mist parting before him. His weapon stayed sheathed For now.

Gyoken's focus seemed to be held on the point he looked at as he spoke seemingly not paying much attention to Kokezaru's, this really didn't bother him though and instead of pressing it he focused back to what was in front of him as he looked to the mist questioning what it was and what was going on. He assessed the situation his nose not picking up any unusual scents. This coupled with Gyoken assessment of left him confused this wasn't a genjutsu design to trap or disorient them so what was the purpose.

Kokezaru thought about this for a moment before he watched as figures appeared from the mist followed by a masked man who was a mystery to the monkey boy. The mysterious man would speak to the group his words a cryptic warning to turn back. This left even more questions for Kokezaru, but before he could even speak up the man faded from sight as if he hadn't been there at all.

"Ok, that was weird. Who was that guy and what was he talking about?"
